Zaguru Zamani Karffa – Erwin, NC
"Congratulations, You’re Going to Graduate Debt Free"
Zaguru Zamani Karffa is a Nigerian refugee who has been living in the U.S. since 2017. Through the LBU benefit, he has hopes to continue his education, overcoming the issues experienced by other refugees.
According to a report distributed by the National Bureau of Economic research, refugees who entered the country between the ages of 18 and 19 see college graduation rates of less than 20 percent.
Zamani wants to help right that record.
"I remember speaking to my academic advisor, and the first thing she said was ‘Congratulations, you’re going to graduate college debt free,’" Zamani said. "And now I’m able to work a full-time job while pursuing my academic goals."
